Meaning of “MitsuDesu(密です)”

This article was written over a year ago.

“MitsuDesu(密です)” means “You are in 3Cs situation. (So you should avoid 3Cs. )”
If you don’t know about 3Cs, check this pdf(https://www.mhlw.go.jp/content/3CS.pdf) out, this is a pdf of Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare.
If you find 3Cs situation, you can say “MitsuDesu(密です)”.
And “MitsuDesu(密です)” won a prize of This year’s trend word in Japan.

“Mitsu(密)” means “San Mitsu(3密)” in this case.
“San mitsu(3密)” means 3Cs.
1st Mitsu(密) is from Mippei(密閉) which means “Closed spaces with poor ventilation”.
2nd Mitsu(密) is from Misshu(密集) which means “Crowded places with many people nearby”.
3rd Mitsu(密) is from Missetsu(密接) which means “Close-contact settings such as close-range conversations.”.

From the beginning of this COVID-19 pandemic, Japanese just wear the mask and wash the hands and avoid the 3Cs. Maybe that’s why Japanese situation is better than other countries.

Both of “MitsuDesu(密です)” and “San mitsu(3密)” are created by Governor of Tokyo, Yuriko Koike.
In my opinion, she is a genius to create catchy words.
At the beginning of this pandemic, she said “We should avoid this San mitsu(3密).”
Nobody knows about COVID-19, but the message “We should avoid San mitsu(3密)” was so easy to understand.
